Track competitor prices in Google Sheets, with alerts when they change

Updated

Describe the sheet, and BrowseWiz reads each competitor's page in your own Chrome, including ones you sign into, and writes the prices into a new Google Sheet in your Drive. Scheduled refreshes keep last week's price beside the new one. A monitor alerts you when a price crosses your line. Free includes one daily scheduled task and one monitor.

Ask for the competitor price sheet once

Say you sell a 16-inch drill press at $899, and four other stores sell the same model. You check their pages when you remember, and last month you missed a rival's sale until it was over.

What you type

Create a Google Sheet called "Drill press competitor prices" with the columns Competitor, Price, Previous price, On sale and Source. Add a row for the 16-inch drill press on each of these pages: northgate-supply.example/dp16 ironbridge.example/dp16 kestrelmro.example/dp16 fulcrumparts.example/dp16 Write Yes in On sale if the page shows a sale. Also add a History tab with one row per store: the date and the price.

Swap in your competitors' product page links. With names alone, BrowseWiz has to search for each page. If a store shows prices only after you sign in, sign in to it in Chrome first. Once the sheet fills in, put it on a schedule (step 3 below).

An example competitor price sheet

BrowseWiz creates this sheet in your Google Drive, one row per store, with a Source column naming the site each price came from. The prompt also adds a History tab, and each scheduled run adds a row per store to it, so you keep the trend as well as the current list.

Example: Drill press competitor prices after the Monday, Oct 5 refresh
CompetitorPricePrevious priceOn saleSource
Northgate$949.00$949.00Nonorthgate-supply.example
Ironbridge$909.00$929.00Yesironbridge.example
Kestrel$919.00$919.00Nokestrelmro.example
Fulcrum$929.00$905.00Nofulcrumparts.example

Get a price drop alert, set in words

Northgate is the big one. If its drill press drops below $900, you want to know that day, not next Monday. A monitor watches one page and alerts you only when a change matches your words.

What you type

Watch this page and tell me when the drill press drops below $900: northgate-supply.example/dp16

Its first check only records the starting point, so a price already under $900 won't alert you.

An alert when the price crosses your line

On Wednesday, Northgate puts the drill press on sale at $879, $20 under yours. Within about 5 minutes, while Chrome is open, BrowseWiz alerts you, so you can decide whether to match it while the sale is on.

A BrowseWiz alert that Northgate's 16-inch drill press is now $879, below a $900 limit, next to the product page showing the sale price down from $949 and the monitor's row in the drawer with its last match

How it works

  1. Describe the sheet

Name the sheet, the product pages and the columns. Buying instead of selling? List your suppliers' pages, like the bearing sheet at the top of this page.

  2. Check and approve the plan

BrowseWiz shows its steps with each page link and the sheet's name. Approve it, grant tab access and sign in to Google once when it asks, and the first run creates and fills the sheet.

  3. Put it on a schedule

Then ask: "Every Monday at 8:00 AM, update this sheet instead of creating a new one: move the old price to Previous price, fill in the new Price and On sale, and add a row per store to the History tab." Approve the plan to save it in your scheduled tasks. Each run finds the sheet by name and alerts you when it finishes or fails. For daily refreshes, skip that message: click Update this sheet daily above the chat box, give it a time and ask it to update the rows the same way.

  4. Add a monitor

Name the page and your price line, then approve the card. A monitor checks the page about every 5 minutes.

A dedicated price tracker or BrowseWiz?

Choose a dedicated price tracker if…

  • You track hundreds or thousands of products. Prisync starts at $99 a month for 100 products, updated 3 times a day, and scales to 5,000 Source 1.
  • You need checks with your computer off, or more often than every 5 minutes. PageCrawl runs every monitor in the cloud Source 2, as often as every 2 minutes on its top plan. Its free plan watches 6 pages, up to hourly, with 220 checks a month and Google Sheets sync Source 3.
  • You mostly watch Amazon. Keepa adds price history charts to Amazon product pages and alerts you by email or push when a price drops below your target Source 4.

Choose BrowseWiz if…

  • The prices sit behind a login, such as a trade portal you sign into, and you'd rather not hand that login to a cloud service.
  • The price only shows after a click, such as picking a size or a variant, and you'd rather say which one in words.
  • You want to design the sheet in plain words: your own columns, last week's price beside this week's, a sale flag, a History tab and the source of each price.
  • You track a handful of pages and your computer is on during the day. Schedules and monitors run while Chrome is open.

What to know before you start

  • Chrome has to be open. Schedules and monitors run only while it is. This isn't a 24/7 service.
  • About every 5 minutes. Monitors check no faster than that, and less often with more than 5 on one site.
  • A new sheet, not your existing one. BrowseWiz creates the price sheet in your Google Drive and keeps writing to it. It can't edit a sheet you already have.
  • Check the first two scheduled runs. An AI model carries out each run from the approved plan, so results can vary. Make sure there's still one sheet, with the same rows updated.
  • Sign-ins expire. If a store signs you out, the next scheduled run lands on its sign-in page and can't read the price until you sign in again in Chrome.
  • Scheduled runs don't stop to ask. Each run acts only in the BrowseWiz Tabs group and approves its own steps. A safety check still runs before every click, typed entry or Enter key press and refuses any step it would have asked you about. See what stays with you.
  • No email. Alerts come as a side panel notice, a pill on the page or a system notification.
  • Monitors don't write rows. The next scheduled refresh updates the sheet.
  • Some sites block checks. You'll see "Check failed: the site blocked the check." You're responsible for following each site's terms.
