Claude in Chrome alternative
Updated
Claude in Chrome is a strong browser agent from Anthropic, included in every paid Claude plan Source 1. BrowseWiz is the alternative for one job: keeping a Google Sheet current from websites, including ones you sign into. It starts free with a daily scheduled task and a page monitor, and Pro runs schedules as often as hourly.
Add to Chrome – it's freeBrowseWiz vs Claude in Chrome
The Claude in Chrome facts come from Anthropic's own pages.
| Feature | BrowseWiz | Claude in Chrome |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free: 10M credits a month, 1 scheduled task (daily), 1 page monitor. Pro: $29/month for 250M credits. Max: $79/month for 1B credits. Billed monthly; no annual plan | Not on the Free plan Source 2. Pro: $20/month, or $17/month billed annually ($200 upfront), with at least 5x Free's usage per 5-hour session. Max: from $100/month, billed monthly, with 5x or 20x Pro's usage. Weekly limits also apply Source 2 |
| Usage | Monthly credits; paid plans capped at 25M credits per 4 hours | Counts against the same plan limits as the rest of your Claude use Source 3 |
| A recurring check | A monitor checks about every 5 minutes while Chrome is open. A check that finds no change makes no AI model call | Each scheduled run is a browser task drawn from your 5-hour and weekly limits Source 2, and browser tasks use more of them than chat Source 3. A daily shortcut is about 30 tasks a month. Anthropic doesn't publish how many a plan covers |
| Models | BrowseWiz Chat, the built-in model. In chat, also any OpenAI-compatible model with your own key | Anthropic's Claude models; all public models are available Source 1 |
| Scheduled tasks | Free: 1, up to daily. Pro and Max: 10, as often as hourly | Scheduled shortcuts run daily, weekly, monthly or annually Source 1. Claude's own scheduled tasks can run hourly Source 4 |
| Page change alerts | A monitor alerts you when a change matches your sentence. Free: 1. Pro and Max: 30 | No built-in page monitor. A scheduled shortcut can check a page daily or less often and notify you when it's done Source 1, Source 5 |
| Google Sheets | Creates the sheet in your Google Drive and keeps writing to it, with a source link per row. Can't edit sheets you already have | Pulls numbers into a spreadsheet by working in the browser Source 5. The separate Claude for Google Workspace add-on (beta) edits the open sheet Source 6 |
| Runs while | Chrome is open | Chrome is open Source 1. Browser work in a scheduled Claude task also needs the Claude Desktop app open Source 7 |
| Browsers | Chrome extension | Google Chrome only; not other Chromium browsers or mobile Source 1 |
| Safety | In chat, asks before it clicks or types, unless you've approved its plan, trust the site or turned approvals off. Scheduled runs don't ask: you approved the plan when you set the task up, and they act only in the BrowseWiz Tabs group. A safety check compares each click, text entry and Enter with the plan you approved, or with your request if there's no plan. It can pause a chat to ask you, and in a scheduled run it refuses any step it would have asked about | Asks before it acts, one site at a time, or auto-approves while a separate safety check reviews each consequential action Source 5. Classifiers screen page content; high-risk sites blocked Source 8 |
Scheduling with Claude: three tools, three sets of rules
Claude handles recurring work in three places, and each has its own limits. BrowseWiz keeps the browser work, the schedule and the sheet in one Chrome extension.
- Claude in Chrome: save a shortcut and schedule it daily, weekly, monthly or annually. It runs while Chrome is open Source 1.
- Scheduled tasks in Claude: Anthropic is merging Claude Cowork into Claude, rolling out gradually and starting with Pro and Max Source 9, so your account may still call this Cowork. Schedule a task hourly, daily, weekly or on weekdays. It runs in the cloud, even with your computer asleep Source 4, but a task where Claude drives a browser still needs the Claude Desktop app open Source 7.
- Claude for Google Workspace (beta): edits the sheet you have open, but can't create triggers or scheduled refreshes Source 6.
- BrowseWiz: a schedule runs up to daily on Free, or hourly on Pro and Max, and writes to a sheet BrowseWiz created, while Chrome is open. Between runs, a page monitor checks a page about every 5 minutes. Claude has no built-in page monitor.
Describe the job once
Claude in Chrome's store listing pitches this job: numbers from vendor portals with no export button, pulled into a spreadsheet Source 5. In BrowseWiz you ask once in chat, then put it on a schedule, here every Monday at 8:00:
Open the billing pages of our five vendor portals: Larkspur Hosting, Northwind Freight, Atlas Packaging, Fernway Staffing and Corvid Software. Put the numbers in a new Google Sheet with vendor, open balance, next due date, last checked and a link to each page.
Pages you're signed into show BrowseWiz what they show you. You never give it a password. If a portal signs you out, a scheduled run lands on its sign-in page until you sign in again in Chrome.
What lands in your sheet
| Vendor | Open balance | Next due | Last checked | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Larkspur Hosting | $1,240.00 | Oct 15 | Oct 5, 8:01 AM | larkspur.example/invoices |
| Northwind Freight | $3,862.50 | Oct 20 | Oct 5, 8:03 AM | northwind.example/billing |
| Atlas Packaging | $0.00 | None | Oct 5, 8:04 AM | atlaspack.example/invoices |
| Fernway Staffing | $7,415.00 | Oct 9 | Oct 5, 8:06 AM | fernway.example/billing |
| Corvid Software | $588.00 | Nov 1 | Oct 5, 8:07 AM | corvid.example/billing |
How BrowseWiz keeps it current
Run it once in chat
Paste the request and approve the plan. BrowseWiz opens the billing pages in the BrowseWiz Tabs group in your Chrome. The first time, grant tab access and sign in to Google when it asks. It creates the sheet in your Google Drive and fills it.
Put it on a schedule
After that first run, send "Repeat this every Monday at 8:00 and update the same sheet". For a daily run instead, click Update this sheet daily above the chat box before you send anything else, then give it a time and say to update the same rows. Either way, approving the plan saves the task without running it now. Each run updates the balances and due dates in that sheet, on Free too, and tells you when it's done. See how scheduled tasks work.
Watch the page that can't wait
Give a page monitor a billing page and a sentence, like "a new invoice appears". It alerts you only when that happens.
Which one to choose
Choose Claude in Chrome if…
- You already pay for Claude Pro or Max and don't want another bill.
- You want Anthropic's models and safety work: classifiers that screen what Claude reads and check each action Source 8.
- The browser is one part of bigger Claude work: skills, connectors, sessions that continue on web, desktop and phone, and built-in know-how for Slack, Gmail, Google Docs and GitHub Source 1.
- Your recurring work doesn't need a browser, so a scheduled Claude task can run it in the cloud Source 4.
- You want AI to edit a sheet you already have, with Claude's Workspace add-on Source 6.
- You want to teach it a workflow by recording it once Source 1.
Choose BrowseWiz if…
- You want a scheduled task and a page monitor on a free plan.
- You want a Google Sheet kept current on a schedule, up to hourly on Pro, with nothing to keep open but Chrome.
- You want alerts only for the changes you describe, not for every edit to the page.
- You want a source link on each row, so anyone can check where a number came from.
- You'd like other models in chat, Claude included, with your own key.
Where BrowseWiz falls short
- Chrome has to stay open for schedules and monitors, as with Claude in Chrome. Nothing runs with your laptop closed.
- Monitors check about every 5 minutes, not faster.
- It isn't a bulk scraper. Thousands of URLs, proxies and captchas need a cloud tool.
- An AI agent reads each page fresh, so two runs can differ. Spot-check the rows that matter.
- Your own key works in chat only. Schedules and monitors always use BrowseWiz Chat, the built-in model.
- It creates its own sheet in your Google Drive and writes there. It can't edit sheets you already have.
- Pro costs $29 a month, more than Claude Pro Source 2. Try your job on Free first.
What BrowseWiz costs
Start on Free: it includes one daily scheduled task, one monitor and 10M credits a month. Credit use depends on how much page text a run reads. One BrowseWiz Chat call that reads a 30,000-character page (about 7,500 input tokens) and writes 500 tokens costs 7,500 × 5 + 500 × 30 ≈ 52,500 credits, and each step of a run re-sends the chat so far.

Questions
No. Claude in Chrome needs a paid Claude plan: Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise Source 1. Pro is $20 a month, or $17 billed annually, and Max starts at $100 a month Source 2. Browser tasks use up your plan's limits faster than chat Source 3. Nanobrowser is a free, open-source browser agent extension that runs on your own API key, so you pay the model provider Source 10. BrowseWiz's free plan includes 1 scheduled task and 1 page monitor.
No. Anthropic says Claude in Chrome isn't supported on other Chromium-based browsers or on mobile devices Source 1. You install it from the Chrome Web Store into Google Chrome. Claude Desktop also has a built-in browser, rolling out gradually Source 1. BrowseWiz is a Chrome extension too, so switching tools doesn't mean switching browsers.
Yes. You can schedule a saved shortcut to run daily, weekly, monthly or annually Source 1. Claude's own scheduled tasks, in Claude Cowork or in any conversation once Cowork's merge into Claude reaches your account, can run hourly in the cloud Source 4, Source 9. A task where Claude drives a browser still needs the Claude Desktop app open Source 7. BrowseWiz schedules run daily on Free and as often as hourly on Pro and Max, while Chrome is open.
Yes. Its store listing shows Claude pulling numbers from vendor portals into a spreadsheet, working in the browser the way a person would Source 5. Anthropic's separate Claude for Google Workspace add-on, in beta on paid plans, edits the sheet you have open but can't create scheduled refreshes Source 6. BrowseWiz creates the sheet in your Google Drive and keeps writing to it, with a source link per row, on a schedule.
Yes, in chat, with your own key. On the Models page of BrowseWiz's options, add any OpenAI-compatible endpoint as a custom model. OpenRouter lists Claude models Source 11, so you can use the base URL https:// with your OpenRouter key and a Claude model ID. Requests go straight from your browser. Scheduled tasks and page monitors always use BrowseWiz Chat, the built-in model.
Anthropic has put serious work into it: classifiers screen page content and check each action, its models are trained to refuse injected instructions, and high-risk sites are blocked Source 8. Anthropic still says the risk isn't zero and recommends trusted sites and a separate browser profile for sensitive accounts. That advice fits every browser agent, BrowseWiz included.
