Automatically update Google Sheets from a website
Updated
To update a Google Sheet from a website automatically, describe the data once in BrowseWiz and ask for a schedule. While Chrome is open, each run checks the pages again, including ones you sign into, and updates the sheet BrowseWiz created, in place or with new rows. It runs daily on Free and up to hourly on Pro.
Add to Chrome – it's freeAsk once, and the sheet stays current
First ask for the data, and BrowseWiz writes it into a new Google Sheet. Right after that run, it offers Update this sheet daily. Click it, or say exactly what you want:
Every morning at 7, open yesterday's sales report in my store's admin, where I'm signed in, and add a row to this sheet with the date, orders, sales and refunds.
Click the suggestion, and BrowseWiz asks what time to run and whether to update the rows or add new ones. Either way, it replies with a plan that shows the schedule, so you can check it before you approve. The first run happens at the next scheduled time.
Keep a log, or update in place
Each morning's run adds a dated row, so the sheet builds into a log you can chart or total. To keep one row per item instead, ask BrowseWiz to update the rows in place.
| Day | Orders | Sales | Refunds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oct 3 | 41 | $3,182 | $64 |
| Oct 4 | 36 | $2,745 | $0 |
| Oct 5 | 29 | $2,210 | $118 |
| Oct 6 | 33 | $2,496 | $45 |
| Oct 7 | 47 | $3,690 | $0 |
How to extract website data to Google Sheets automatically
Describe the data
Ask for what you need, such as a table on a public page or yesterday's numbers from your store's admin. Approve the plan, then grant tab access and sign in to Google once when asked. BrowseWiz opens the pages in the BrowseWiz Tabs group, including sites you're signed into, and writes the rows into a new Google Sheet, with a source link per row if you ask.
Ask for a schedule and approve it
Click Update this sheet daily after the first run, or ask for any schedule: daily at a set time, on set weekdays, or hourly on Pro and Max. The task then sits in the scheduled tasks drawer, where you can run it now or delete it.
Each run updates the sheet
BrowseWiz checks the pages again and updates each row, or adds dated rows for a log. Each run is saved in History.
You get a notification
Finished with the run time, or Failed with the reason, even with the side panel closed. Click it to open the run.
Rows updated in place, old values kept
A task can also rewrite the same rows on every run. In this example price sheet, a Monday task wrote each new price beside the one it replaced, then sent an alert when it finished. Ask for a Previous column and a Last checked time in your request.

When runs happen, and when they don't
BrowseWiz runs in your Chrome, not in the cloud. That's how it uses your logins, and why Chrome has to be open.
- At the set time, in the task's time zone, one task at a time.
- Chrome closed? If Chrome was closed when a run was due, it runs soon after you open Chrome again. Missed runs don't pile up: you get one catch-up run.
- Signed out of BrowseWiz? The run fails, with a note in History.
- Signed out of a site? Runs use the sign-ins your Chrome already has. If a site has signed you out by the time a run is due, each run lands on its sign-in page until you sign in again in Chrome. Add "If a page asks me to sign in, write Signed out" to your request, so the sheet shows where to sign in.
- No one has to click Approve. Scheduled runs approve their own steps. A safety check refuses steps that would send, pay, delete or submit something your plan didn't ask for.
- Alerts show in the side panel, as a pill on the page or as a system notification, never by email. They say the run ended, not what changed. For an alert when a value crosses a line, add a page monitor.
BrowseWiz vs IMPORTXML, Apps Script, Zapier and cloud scrapers
Each can pull live website data into Google Sheets on a schedule, and none is live to the second. They differ in which pages they can read and how much you build.
| Feature | BrowseWiz | IMPORTXML / IMPORTHTML | Apps Script | Zapier / Make | Browse AI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Setup | Describe it in a sentence | A formula with an XPath query Source 1 or a table number Source 2 | Code to fetch and parse the page, plus a time-driven trigger Source 3 | A workflow fed by an API, an HTTP step Source 4 or a scraper app | A robot per site, trained by point and click Source 5 |
| How often | Daily on Free, up to hourly on Pro and Max | Every hour while the document is open, on Google's timing Source 6 | Every minute to monthly; daily runs land in a one-hour window Source 3 | Every 15 minutes at most on Zapier Free Source 7 and Make Free Source 8 | Hourly on Free, every 5 minutes on paid plans Source 9 |

Which one to use
Use a Google Sheets formula if…
- The page is public and loads without JavaScript, so
IMPORTXMLorIMPORTHTMLcan read it. - The data is a CSV file, which
IMPORTDATAreads Source 15. - An hourly refresh while the document is open is enough, and you want it free in a sheet you already have.
Use Apps Script, Zapier or a cloud scraper if…
- It must run around the clock, with your computer off.
- You need checks every few minutes, or thousands of pages.
- The site has an API.
Use BrowseWiz if…
- The page needs JavaScript or your login.
- You'd rather describe the data than write XPath or code.
- You want several sites in one sheet, refreshed while you work.
Limits to know first
- Always-on runs. Runs happen only while your computer is on and Chrome is open, never 24/7 in the cloud.
- Existing spreadsheets. BrowseWiz can't refresh a sheet you already have. It creates the sheet in your Google Drive the first time you ask, and each run updates that one. To show the rows in another workbook, use
IMPORTRANGESource 16. - Your formulas. An update rewrites the whole row, so keep your own formulas on another tab.
- Speed. Hourly is the fastest schedule. Monitors check a page about every 5 minutes, and nothing is faster.
- AI reading. Two runs may format a value differently. Ask for a source link per row, so you can check any value.
- Scale. It isn't built for volume scraping: thousands of URLs, proxies or captchas.
- Site terms. You're responsible for following each site's terms of use.
What it costs
Every plan, Free included, can write to Google Sheets on a schedule. The credits a run uses depend on how much page text it reads.

Questions
Yes, but only while the sheet is open, and on Google's timing, not yours. Google's help says IMPORTXML, IMPORTHTML and IMPORTDATA check for updates every hour while the document is open Source 6, and reopening the file doesn't force a refresh. They also read only the HTML the server sends, so data a page draws with JavaScript Source 10, or shows only after you sign in, often comes back empty.
The run waits. BrowseWiz runs scheduled tasks only while Chrome is open, so nothing runs with your laptop closed. When you open Chrome again, the missed run starts soon after. Missed runs don't pile up: if several were missed, say over a long weekend, you get one catch-up run, not a backlog.
Yes, if you ask. Have it move the current value to a Previous column before writing the new one, and fill a Last checked column with the run time. Or ask for a dated row per item on every run to build a history. Each run can also be given the last run's answer, to say what changed.
No. BrowseWiz works only with spreadsheets it created, so it can't refresh a sheet you already have. It creates the sheet in your Google Drive the first time you ask, and each run updates that one. To use the rows in an existing workbook, add an IMPORTRANGE formula there. Google asks once to allow access, and after that the workbook shows the latest rows whenever it's open Source 16.
No. You approve the plan once, when you create the task, and scheduled runs then approve their own steps, since nobody is there to click. A safety check still screens every click, text entry and Enter key press, and in a scheduled run it refuses steps that would send, pay, delete or submit something your plan didn't ask for.
Stop copy-pasting website data
Describe the data once, approve a schedule and let BrowseWiz keep the sheet current while Chrome is open. The free plan includes one daily task.
